An “Alice in Wonderland” Themed Wedding!

Posted by: Denise In: Theme Weddings

A guest recently posted a comment asking for “Alice in Wonderland” theme wedding suggestions, and rather than merely respond to her comment with a few ideas, I thought I’d make an entire post about it for any others who are interested in this idea!

While the Disney Alice might seem too trite or childish to base an entire wedding around, the opposite is true. You can have a very elegant “Alice” themed wedding, and you can still keep the fairy tale vibe if you like! Keep reading for inspiration and ideas.

The Cake

Your wedding cake will be the highlight of your themed wedding, and can incorporate the light and airy pastels of Alice or the red, black and white color scheme of the Queen of Hearts – whatever you desire! To keep the cake from looking too “cutesy,” avoid using obvious embellishments from “Alice in Wonderland,” and instead keep the look subtle but noticeable. The cake pictured at left is the perfect balance of elegance AND fun!

The Favors

For your wedding favors, you have several ideas you can use that match the “Alice in Wonderland” theme. Try giving individual tea bags to each guest or a tea cup and saucer your guests can take home. Individual petit fours or some other elegant treat can also be a great wedding favor, and all of them fit the Mad Hatter tea party scene from Alice so beautifully!

The Food

It doesn’t really matter what you serve at your wedding; you can get creative, though, and make little cocktails with “Drink Me” on them, and little appetizers with “Eat Me” neatly labeled. You can even do what the photo at right shows and label the actual treats! Your guests will love this novelty idea, and you can make it look classy without being childish.

The Decorations

This is where you can have the most fun with your “Alice in Wonderland” theme wedding. For the centerpieces, consider using large teapots in various designs and filling them with fresh flowers. You can also stack teacups one on top of the other to create an abstract design, but make sure they are sturdy and won’t fall over!

If you’re having an outdoor reception, consider stringing up paper butterfly lights around the reception area, and use small bud vases with single flowers to spruce things up. Honestly, you can feel free to get creative and use any decorations you see fit!

Having an “Alice in Wonderland” themed wedding can be a great way to showcase your personal flair and style, and there are so many options to choose from!

What are your favorite ideas for this type of theme wedding?

One of my cousins got married last year and I was a bridesmaid in her wedding. About 2 weeks before the wedding the bride calls me up to ask me if I would mind not wearing my engagement ring at her wedding since it would distract people from looking at her ring, and she really didn’t want anyone in the bridal party sporting jewelry bigger than hers. Can anyone beat that bridezilla request?? — Alexis
