The Outlaw Takes A Bride (The Burnett Brides)

Everyone deserves a second chance. After the death of his best friend in the Battle of Atlanta, Tanner Burnett walked away from the civil war. Now, ten years later, he runs with the Sam Bass gang, trying to escape the memories of the war. But when a stagecoach robbery goes bad, he rescues injured Elizabeth Anderson, wanting only to get her to a doctor and then rejoin his gang. But the injured beauty needs a nurse and Tanner is unprepared for the way Beth soothes his wounded heart and heals his spirit. Until he takes her to Fort Worth, Texas and learns she’s his brother’s mail order bride.

“I’ve waited years for a husband.” Beth stopped in front of Tanner, her hazel eyes flashing indignantly. “To have someone who would wake up in my arms each morning, a baby to rock to sleep. Isn’t that what all women dream of? So why am I so bad for wanting the same things?”
“You’re not as long as you know I’m not good husband material.” Tanner took a deep breath and tried not to reflect on what he could see beneath her sheer nightgown. “But you think you can soothe my hurts and make me care about you enough that I’ll change my ways.”
“I don’t give a fig about your hurts.”
Tanner didn’t want to stop, “You think that beneath this rough exterior there’s a man worth saving, worth turning into a husband. You’re wrong.”
God, how he wanted her even when she was pushing him, making him feel things he’d long forgotten. He still wanted to feel her arms around him, even while he was trying his best to push her away.
“I have a man waiting for me. Why would I want a coldhearted bastard like you?”
“Because the man waiting for you, doesn’t make you feel like this,” he said as he pulled her into his arms.

Another hit for Sylvia Mcdaniel!! Loved it!!!!! I enjoyed reading this book. I love the Burnett boys and can’t wait until the next book in June.Tanner hasn’t seen his family in over ten years. During a stage coach ride that turns into a robbery Tanner is responsible for the accidental shooting of Beth. Beth is a mail order bride on her way to marry Tucker, Tanners brother. Feeling responsible for Beth, Tanner decides to nurse her back to health. Tanner doesn’t know who Beth’s fiance is and doesn’t care to know. During their time together sparks fly. Upon taking Beth to her fiance Tanner is spotted by his family. Thats where both Beth and Tanner realize who each other is. Eugenia is a match making momma and I can’t wait to read about Tucker and Sarah!

Enjoyable Western Romance Tanner and Beth are two deeply troubled souls, both having suffered terrible experiences in the civil war that stole their youthful innocence and enthusiasm for life. Ten years on they are both still suffering the consequences of the choices they made and how those choices affected their lives. They come together on a fateful stagecoach ride to Fort Worth. When something unexpected happens they are thrown together for a few weeks and both fight their attraction to the other. Beth has a chance for marriage to a decent man and Tanner lives a life unsuitable for a wife. But nature and the heart have a way of overruling the head and neither can resist their feelings. Many more complications and surprises are thrown at them before they find their happy ending, and it was wonderful to see Tanner not only find love, but find forgiveness and acceptance from the family he feared would disown him. A wonderful Western romance full of great characters. Texas is described so well I could almost taste the dust. Really enjoyed this story and I recommend it to all romance lovers.
