5 Romantic First Dance Songs

Posted by: Denise In: Music and Entertainment

There are literally thousands of choices you can make for your first dance song, and it can certainly feel a bit overwhelming! Luckily, I’ve done some of the legwork for you. The following 5 songs are what I believe to be some of the most romantic, provocative and downright beautiful ballads that are perfect for the first dance at your wedding. Take a look and see if one resonates with you!

1. Kiss From A Rose – Seal

“There used to be a graying tower, alone on the sea. You became the light on the dark side of me.”

While not a choice I’ve seen many couples make as their first dance song, Seal’s “Kiss From A Rose” is a sweetly romantic ballad that, quite frankly, speaks volumes about the love between two people. What better sentiment could there be to express on your wedding day?

2. In The Still Of The Night- The Five Satins

“In the still of the night, I held you, held you tight. For I love, love you so… promise I’ll never let you go, in the still of the night.”

I literally swoon nearly every time I hear this song (maybe I really am a hopeless romantic at heart…!) It’s a simple sentiment, but that makes it no less beautiful as a classic choice for your first dance.

3. You’re The Inspiration – Chicago

“You’re the meaning in my life, you’re the inspiration. You bring feeling to my life, you’re the inspiration. I wanna have you near me, wanna have you hear me sayin’… no one needs you more than I need you.”

Simple and straight to the point, this wonderful ballad by Chicago nicely captures the sentiment of your wedding day without being too over-the-top cheesy.

4. Embraceable You – Nat King Cole

“Embrace me, my sweet embraceable you. Embrace me, you irreplaceable you.”

What more can be said with lyrics as frank as these? As a first dance song, it’s the perfect choice. Imagine how it will feel as the music swells and you’re wrapped in your beloved’s arms – beautiful!

5. Let It Be Me – The Everly Brothers

“Each time we meet love, I find complete love – without your sweet love, what would life be?”

If you’ve never heard this classic tune before, I strongly suggest you YouTube it… it’s a beautiful, plaintive song that leaves no desire unsaid. Gorgeous, simply gorgeous.

One of my cousins got married last year and I was a bridesmaid in her wedding. About 2 weeks before the wedding the bride calls me up to ask me if I would mind not wearing my engagement ring at her wedding since it would distract people from looking at her ring, and she really didn’t want anyone in the bridal party sporting jewelry bigger than hers. Can anyone beat that bridezilla request?? — Alexis
