Faux Flowers vs The Real Deal

Posted by: Denise In: Flowers

Before you decide on faux silk flowers or real flowers for your arrangements and bouquets, you should seriously consider your budget and the type of wedding you’ll be having. While silk flowers can often be cheaper than the real deal, this isn’t always the case. However, look at our list of pro’s and con’s of using faux flowers to help you decide which type of flower is right for you.

Silk Flowers

  • Pros

- Faux flowers will not wilt in hot temperatures, so if you are having a summer wedding, silk flowers may be the perfect choice

- Easier to transport

- More durable than real flowers

- Will still be “alive” years after the wedding has ended

  • Cons

- A common silk flower can often be much more costly than the real thing

- Silk flowers just aren’t the same as real flowers

- Can look cheesy and obviously fake if not well done

While nothing can replace the beauty or elegance of a real floral bouquet, oftentimes you may find it works well to use silk flowers in your arrangements. If you are a crafty person, Michael’s or another craft and hobby store can often have everything you need to create gorgeous silk flower arrangements that look just as pretty as the real thing. It all comes down to how much you can afford to spend, and what type of wedding you are having.

Would you use silk flowers in place of real ones? Leave your thoughts in the comments!

One of my cousins got married last year and I was a bridesmaid in her wedding. About 2 weeks before the wedding the bride calls me up to ask me if I would mind not wearing my engagement ring at her wedding since it would distract people from looking at her ring, and she really didn’t want anyone in the bridal party sporting jewelry bigger than hers. Can anyone beat that bridezilla request?? — Alexis
