When Should I Notify Guests If I’m Having a Destination Wedding?

Posted by: Denise In: Destination Weddings

If you’re planning a destination wedding, it’s important to give your guests plenty of notice so they are able to rearrange schedules, check their finances and be able to share your special day with you. Since travel arrangements will need to be made, it’s important to send your wedding invitations even earlier than you normally would for a wedding that doesn’t require much travel!

Generally speaking, couples who are planning a destination wedding should send save-the-date cards as soon as they’ve worked out a location. These cards are sent prior to the invitations so friends and family can be aware they’ll need to plan ahead in order to attend.

Invitations should go out at least 8 to 10 weeks before the wedding. Include extra information to help your guests plan, as many guests who attend destination weddings try to make a vacation out of the experience! Include flight options, activities and things to see and do, and information about any hotel rooms you may have booked in advance for your guests so they can make the most of your wedding and be able to share your special celebration with you!

One of my cousins got married last year and I was a bridesmaid in her wedding. About 2 weeks before the wedding the bride calls me up to ask me if I would mind not wearing my engagement ring at her wedding since it would distract people from looking at her ring, and she really didn’t want anyone in the bridal party sporting jewelry bigger than hers. Can anyone beat that bridezilla request?? — Alexis
