Saving Money On Your Destination Wedding

Posted by: Denise In: Destination Weddings

Getting married in an exotic locale can be an exciting way to start your lives together, but destination weddings can quickly wreck your budget if you aren’t careful. Luckily, you don’t have to give up on your dream destination if you follow these money saving tips.

1. Think Outside the Box

While a swanky resort at your destination of choice may offer great package deals on weddings, you should be willing to consider other options as well. A quaint bed and breakfast, a rustic lodge or other hotels may be able to save you money and still provide a nice backdrop for your wedding and reception.

2. Book During the Off Season

You’ll end up paying much less if you book your wedding during your destination’s off season. Research your location to find when rates may be cheaper, and you can save quite a bit of cash by holding your wedding during that time.

3. Think Local

Base your wedding and reception decor, flowers, food, etc. on what can easily be found locally in the destination you’ll be married in. If you have to import things, you’re going to be charged an arm and a leg when you could easily save money and still have a beautiful wedding by getting everything locally.

4. Be Willing to Bargain

Oftentimes, airlines and hotels will offers discounts or reduced rates depending on the size of your party. Don’t be afraid to inquire about these potentially money-saving discounts, as they can help you stick to your wedding budget without sacrificing anything.

Destination weddings are expensive, but with proper planning and a willingness to compromise or think outside the box, you can save money on your big day and still have plenty of wonderful memories to cherish for a lifetime.

Best Bridezilla Stories

One of my cousins got married last year and I was a bridesmaid in her wedding. About 2 weeks before the wedding the bride calls me up to ask me if I would mind not wearing my engagement ring at her wedding since it would distract people from looking at her ring, and she really didn’t want anyone in the bridal party sporting jewelry bigger than hers. Can anyone beat that bridezilla request?? — Alexis
